Alcohol Awareness

As a teenager, I expected alcohol can only lead to fun times. However, I could not have been more wrong in this case. I soon discovered that there were many rules and regulations surrounding this seemingly harmless substance.

Obviously, I knew that there were laws regarding what age it is legal to drink, and which locations you can drink in legally. However, I was unaware of the rules stating that anyone aged from 5 to 16 was allowed to drink (in moderation) with parental permission at home or on other private premises.

What I wasn’t aware of was how devastating the consequences of abusing this substance could be. There were many video re-enactments of devastating events that were caused by the abuse and misuse of alcohol. For example, there was a video showing children playing in a back garden, then a car flies through a fence and the camera cuts straight to black, leaving the audience to assume that the children were killed by the drunk driver in the car. This shocked students as no one expected that to be the outcome of the video.

This session has showed me that alcohol is not just something that can lead to good times, but it can also lead to some pretty devastating events if misused.
