Money Management

The Year 12s are looking at how to manage their money as they move forward to university life. This lesson was run by Mr Moss and Mr Quinn, who both (hopefully!) have specific experience in the financial area, as they are our maths and business teachers. Great words of advice from Mr Quinn were: ‘Moving out is costly, so be prepared for it’.

One of the main things they learnt was that when moving forward to university, they can get a very small discount on their tuition fees if they pay them up front. The students were tasked with looking at a student finance cost generator, which allowed them to find out which university would cost the least from their top five university choices. This would further help the students in deciding what university they should choose.

One student, Amber, previously attended the university open days at Northumbria and Carlisle. She found that the universities cost a more money to attend than she had previously thought. Katie said, ‘we are researching how our financial circumstances will change dramatically,’ and Ben said, ‘It really enlightened me.’ Many other students also commented on how this would help them to decide on what kind of university experience they would like to have.
