The Year 10s, like the other years, have had a range of exciting sessions teaching them about topics that will come in handy for their lives in the future. The 14 and 15 year olds should appreciate this day because they are the closest to leaving the main school and therefore typically have to manage stress more in the lead up to their Year 11 GCSE’s. They have already managed the stress of the mocks, but they must learn how to fully combat the stress of the final GCSE’s.

It is vital that they learn how to counter the effects of stress, and this was helped along by learning the physical effects of stress on your body. Stress can have damaging effects such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes were labelled onto a simple diagram of a body. Stress can affect all parts of life, including mood or behaviour. However, this class mainly focused on the physical effects of stress.
Different types of stress were also addressed in this session such as: acute stress, episodic stress, and chronic stress. Each student looked at the different types of stress that they themselves carried and diagnosed it using the different descriptions they were given by their teachers, Mr Sanderson and Miss Mason. The students who finished this task identified the things in their life that were causing their different types of stress.
Once they had learned about the different types of stress that they possessed along with the possible types of stress, they learnt how to manage their stress in the most effective way. Whether this was by finding something that made them happy enough to balance their stress or eliminating any stressful aspects of their lives for a day in order to de-stress for a day.
All in all, this session proved to be very informative and useful for all those who have taken part in it.
