Who Are You?

A question asked commonly in these sessions was ‘what makes you you?’ Or ‘ what makes you unique?’ ‘What makes you an individual?’

Well let’s get to answering those. First of all these sessions were to explore who people were and what makes them unique. Students in these sessions behaved really well and relatively maturely. They said that your personality: makes you who you are; who you love; what you think or feel; what you believe in; and, your take on happenings around the world, good or bad. When asked what makes people different in Mr. Walker’s session, students answered that Likes and Dislikes, Hobbies, Genes/DNA, Emotions and thoughts, and Gender can make someone different or unique. This shows how you can be different in many ways, for example, the students were also asked about differences in physical and metaphysical. Physical is what you can see, so what you look like. Hair colour, eye colour, height, or something like foot size. However, there is so much more to a person than this. Being unique and individual has so much more to do with thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

“Everyone’s personality is different.”

~Mr. Walker

In Mrs. Ross’ session the students also talked about how names don’t make a person. They focused on separating what makes everybody else and yourself an individual. The students in all the sessions we visited were well behaved and were being mature about the topic.

Usually the name doesn’t make you unique”

“Your Ideas make you you.”

~Mrs. Ross

We conducted an interview with one of the other teachers doing the sessions. Mr Rush thought that it was important for students to revisit the question ‘Who are you?’ so students can think about it. However, it would also be important to visit this question earlier on before doing it in R.E or P.D, because it gives students more time to think about it. The students in this class also said that something that can be part of you is whether you were introverted or extroverted, or both because it is possible. It is also important to know just how connected people can be; we all know that we can grow or expand our views or beliefs as we get older and continue in life so it is important to revisit this question even as we get older and move into adulthood.
